AT THE RACES ! Oh my goodness folks I don't know if you have ever been to a Nascar Race but I haven't at least not up until now. There are thousands of people here, I mean thousands, so many the streets are blocked off and the people just take up every space. Old people, young people, pretty people and some down right ugly ones. But they are all capable of voting and getting involved in cleaning up our country. A lot are Fred Fans ( I know I hate to even say that name) but they can be educated and being sort of a radical crowd of independant types they are surely able to join the Revolution. I would bet that more than 3/4 of them are gun owners and all of them complain about the taxes and corruption. So they are a ripe group for the pickin. We started off rested and ready to go, got the tables all set up, tv going and a big pot of coffee on by 8 AM. Of course we were the only ones up and about for a while but soon the earth opened up and good Lord people were everywhere.
We had our banners up, one on stakes in the ground but were told pretty quickly we couldn't do that, now don't get riled up! It was simply because there are so many cars coming in and out and not much room they were afraid one may damage a tire of have a fender bender. Not a problem, Out with the Helium and Balloons.. After about an hour of blowing up the balloons and getting them tied on the sign we had a flying banner. The cops laughed about it and cautioned us to make sure it didn't escape and collide with the air planes flying overhead. Actually the police were very very easy to get along with and drove by constantly with new people in their carts to see Buddy. A group of the Border Patrol guys were there and spent a lot of time with us on Thursday morning actually helping tell people about Ron Paul. This is very encouraging.
The banner worked so well we did a yard sign also..Guess how many helium balloons it takes to fly one Yard Sign. Loved the way it floated in the air and boy did people look up at all those Ron Paul Balloons. The balloons were also a hit with the kids. Jeff, one of the Charlotte Meet up people got kicked out of the TV Show for taking up too much air time with his oversized sign so he came back to the RV and proceeded to inflate more balloons and walked all over the lot handing one to every kid he saw. Worked wonderfully well. You could see those balloons bebopping all over the place.
WHERE DOES A HOME MADE ERNEST HANCOCK REVOLUTION BANNER COST $25,000.00? At Lowes Motor Speedway. Scanner Scott ( Charlotte Meetup) had two of the signs on the wall at the TV studio for Speed TV ( Nationally televised racing show) ready for the audience to come in and the show to start. He noticed when he came back they were turned over so you couldn't see the words? He just figured someone didn't like Ron so he turned them face out again. About that time one of the employees came over and advised him that it would cost him $25,000 for each if they were left there and televised.. Needless to say they came down fast but he and the others who showed up with their signs for the broadcast did a great job of getting those signs on TV. They were smart they used Nascar drivers names and logos on the signs as well as Dr.Paul..Worked great. Tim had taken photos of the show but they turned out really grainy from the screen in the sound studio but, a friend was watching TV at home and was so excited about seeing Dr.Paul's name on the show she took a photo of her TV to email me the sign. We know now that millions of viewers saw Dr.Pauls Name. Note the sign on the left is the same sign on the photo of the TV... Good going Scott..
All together they attended 3 TV broadcasts and got the signs on all of them.. This TV show is watched by millions of race car fans weekly. You can't get better than this...and for FREE.
We had a great spot about 75 feet from the Highway and the gate entrance. We actually had the best place possible as the manager of the parking lot made a spot for us out of a space no one else would take because of a deep ditch but the old RV just backed right over this ditch and with the levelers down we were almost on an even keel, you still had to go up hill to the bathroom but there are always some minor inconvience and this was not one to worry about unless of course you are like me and kind of clumbsy with your eyes closed in the shower ( soap you know) and kind of fall out of the shower... Take a look at the sea of RV's behind us, I mean thousands of them what a crowd. The concessions area looked more like a giant circus that anything else I can think of. Tim climbed to the top of one of the grandstands to get these shots.
Look at the crowd at the actual race. This was just one small section of the stands where Tim was in the cheap seats and every seat taken. There were long lines of buses all afternoon pulling in and dropping off a load of folks plus all those that parked in the hundreds of acres of parking. I am still amazed at the amount of people in one place. It was awesome, and folks, NO FIGHTS, NO NASTY PEOPLE, at least not that we saw or met, everyone was so helpful and in such a joyful mood. Just out to have fun and they did. My only complaint was after the races, both of them, people tended to be a little giddy either from the fumes from the cars or maybe to something they were drinking and as they would walk by the RV they would yell RON PAUL.. At least we know they can read and now know the name... We left the bumper stickers and flyers on the table and people were stopping by late in the evening after the race watching the TV ( Ron Paul Video) playing over and over and taking bumper stickers and buttons. Believe it or not they were not greedy or destructive, just taking a few here and there and walking off back to their RV's, campers or tents. There were bon fires and smells of BBQ all over the place and everyone sharing. There are no strangers at a Nascar Race.
Buddy did his job, he must have shaken a thousand hands each day, I finally got smart and charged for a shake, every time he shook someones hand they had to put a Ron Paul sticker on their shirts.. Not one refused and some asked for more for their friends. Bette and Scott went to the sign wave at the TV broad cast with a roll of the stickers also and were handing them out right and left too. Race Fans love to wear stickers? I know I had 3 new rolls of them and they are all gone except about 20 left on a roll. Now that is a lot of people that were walking around with the name RON PAUL on their shirts, well some on other parts of the body especially the girls who had on tight jeans and spagetti strap shirts, theirs went on their Hip Pocket..Good place to be seen Right?
NOW FOR THE GOOD PART About 4:30 in the afternoon we were sitting there eating hot dogs and cole slaw and looked up to see a new plane joining the line up in the sky.. Oh MY GOD... it was Ron Paul for President. Plain as day, flying over all these thousands of people. My heart just fluttered I was so excited. The pilot did a great job. He circled as low as he could by law and made sure he covered the entire parking area on his laps around the track. It was a beautiful sight. Saturday afternoon Scott Mullins and Bette ( other Granny) drove over from Chapel Hill. It took them about 2 hours to drive over and park but it took them another 2 hours to walk a few blocks to the RV. I saw the plane start on his rounds and called Scott on his cell to tell him to hurry the plane was in the air again and get some video of it.. He was so excited yelling I got it already, he had seen the plane and dropped everything and right there in the crowd started videoing the flight. So we do have a good video of the flight coming up soon as he gets it downloaded and edited. Folks your money was well spent, my camera didn't have a good zoom feature or I can't figure out how to make it work but you can see the banner proudly flying.
Notice everyone is looking up. I am worn out, Buddy is a tired little monkey, Tim is in bed snoring and the RV is filthy. I mean really messy and I don't even care tonight. I can get it all clean and ready to go tomorrow or the next day. We didn't make any money, didn't sell any signs or T Shirts. We did give away a lot of Ron Paul Pens, Buttons, Bumper stickers and slim jims. Tim warned me that these folks would be spending their money on Nascar and Racing stuff and he was absolutely right but we did make a lot of new friends, introduced a whole lot of folks to Ron and I think it was worth the work and money spent to pull this off. The estimated crowd was over 200,000 people for both days. People this is a great opportunity to promote our Candidate. Lets do it again. I signed a contract to have the banner flown at the DAYTONA 500 in Feb. If I have to do it alone I will, that will be twice as big as these races and Lord only knows of the numbers that will attend. I know the cost of flying the banner we had this week end is $2,400.00. That is for 8 laps arround the track and two passes down the beaches. I don't know how much the parking will be, it was $150 for this weekend here in NC. We need to be there at least a week in advance of the races to get a spot so that means more parking fees than here. IT is up to you guys to help out if you feel this is a worth while event to attend but whether or not you do I will figure out a way of doing it one way or the other. You cannot imagine the number of people who are starved to hear the truth and see a light at the end of the tunnel.. Ron Paul is that light. It is up to us to let him shine. |
